Dr Shannon Donahoe - Associate Veterinary Pathologist

Dr Shannon Donahoe

Shannon’s interest in wildlife is long standing and includes time spent as a zookeeper and animal care technician at a zoological institution and conducting research characterizing infectious agents in reptiles and birds.

Shannon developed an interest in pathology while in veterinary school and after graduating cum laude from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, she spent two years as a veterinary pathology resident at the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Pullman, Washington.

A passion for nondomestic animal pathology led Shannon to pursue additional training focused on wildlife and exotic animal pathology in Chicago where she completed a three year residency at the University of Illinois Zoological Pathology Program.  During this time she provided diagnostic pathology services for the Chicago Zoological Society Brookfield Zoo, Lincoln Park Zoological Gardens, John G. Shedd Aquarium, Cook County Forest Preserve, Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, and The Marine Mammal Centre.  Additionally, Shannon spent several weeks at The Marine Mammal Centre in Sausalito, California where she obtained specialized training in marine mammal pathology.  Shannon brings to the Australian Registry of Wildlife Health particular interests in wildlife and exotic animal infectious disease as it relates to conservation of wild populations and management of populations in captive situations.
